In the community gardens of Bakau, The Gambia, women cultivate far more than just crops; they cultivate their self-reliance. Serreh, born in the heart of these gardens, has spent her entire life working the land. Today, her body bears the marks of decades of toil in harsh conditions. Exhausted, she nevertheless continues to return to the place that shaped her, a garden she considers her home. Alongside a close-knit group of women, she faces the daily challenges of climate change, soil degradation linked to chemical fertilizers, a lack of infrastructure, and the absence of adequate storage space.
Through Serreh's journey, the film explores the invisible links between ecology, economic insecurity, and women's empowerment. Despite the hardships she faces, Serreh continues her quest for collective solutions, rooted in solidarity and resilience.
